“What should I study if I only have a few days until finals and feel like I still need to revise everything?”
While there is no single, correct answer to this question, a great way to get the most out of your time close to exams is to focus your efforts on Paper 1B, so data-based questions. Here is why:
Reason 1: It is a large percentage of your final grade.
If you are in SL, this section of your first exam makes up 16% of your entire final grade (yes, almost as much as your IA), while if you take HL, this number is 12% (still a significant portion).
Reason 2: It has much fewer concepts than Paper 1A or Paper 2.
While in Papers 1A and 2 you will see questions from the entire syllabus, Paper 1B focuses on experimental, data-based concepts. If you work through 15-20 such questions, you will have seen basically all that can come up on the final exam.
Reason 3: It is easy to find questions.
One issue with studying for Papers 1A and 2 is that not all questions from old syllabus past exams are relevant for the new syllabus and it is sometimes difficult to know which questions you should solve and which ones you can omit. Not with Paper 1B! You can choose any Paper 3 – Section A question from the old syllabus and you will be on your way to improving your skills and knowledge for Paper 1B.
